The methyl mercaptan content in air samples is below the maximum permissible concentration (MPC), RIA Novosti was told in the Moscommonitoring on Monday.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, residents of Khimki, Lobny Mytishche and Balashikha began to complain on the presence of a smell of hydrogen sulfide in the air on December 8. On Monday, Rospotrebnadzor reported that the study found that “the cause of the appearance of unpleasant odors could be mercaptans and their derivatives.”

“In the samples in the laboratory, methyl mercaptan was detected, the concentration is below the MPC,” said the representative of the Moscommonitoring.

He specified that the content was 0.3 MPC, while noted that this substance smells even at a concentration below the MPC.
