Russia and Turkey launch nuclear power plant construction

The project of Akkuyu nuclear power plant construction in Turkey with the participation of Russia is moving to a new stage. The constructions first stage is about to be started on the site. The opening ceremony devoted to this milestone will take place soon as it is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press secretary of Akkuyu nuclear power plant Murat Fyrat.

The head of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Berat Albayrak and the general director of Rosatom corporation Alexey Likhachev will also attend this ceremony.

Russia and Turkey agreed on establishing the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in 2010. The construction model assumes that Russia will build a station, own and operate it.

Akkuyu will include four 1200 MW power units. The project cost is about 20 billion dollars. Turkey expects to launch nuclear power plant in 2023, to the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic establishment.
